A health trust has been heavily criticised for “institutional abuse” of people with learning disabilities.
I attended a Presentation from Debbie Abrams regarding this report
As you may be aware Stanley Park High School has been identified as the school to receive funding from the governments Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, as a One School Pathfinder. We are currently as per the Strategy Committee document 5th December 2006 (www.suttonlea.org ) examining the possible potential sites for the development of a new school build. The possible sites are:
The Existing Site.
The Allotment Site.
The Orchard Hill site.
Attended presention of three sites and chatted to residents regarding their concerns.
At the end of 2006 I wrote to the 3 Churches in the Carshalton South area that I had not visited and was pleased to have a reply from the Banstead Road Baptist Minister Geoff Bland. I was invited along to his home for, I was delighted for the invite and eagerly accepted. Geoff and I chatted about the area and ourselves for an hour.
I met with John Kennedy, Mrs Rachel Jacob the Headteacher, and members of the council as the school had been approached to become a base for the Stanley Park area Children’s Centre and a feasibility was carried out on the site. Discussion took place to look into the possibility of using the now unused toilet block next to the school.
All Councillors were invited to attend as a civic dignitary at these Ceremonies. I met up with the Superintendent Registrar Marion Vidler who went through the ceremony before hand and then chatted to Citizens prior to them receiving their certificates, British passport application and signing the register. I read out a prepared speech of three pages. Among the 17 residents were 6 children, one was bold enough to sign the register. A happy day for these residents. I must say I did enjoy the evening, and stayed for a cup of coffee and a chat with the Registrar, we seemed to have a lot in commonly, one being holidays!
The Church of the Good Shepherd put on a flavoursome meal and I dressed up as you can see from the photo.
This meeting had presentations from the Wallington Recource Centre, an excellent presentation from the Clients
Health Scrutiny Members were invited to this open day as cuts to their funding were envisaged. The Centre has a lot of good facilities including a nursery for clients to leave their children from an early age whilst involved in sessions at the centre.
